I’ve just been connecting up my TV. Not a big job nowadays, you just plug in, stick an HDMI lead in the back to the DVD player and switch it on. But which HDMI lead to get?
Amazon will sell you one for a fiver or less. But I found a site with “entry level” leads at £15-20 and… wait for it… a silver plated “Platinum Series” model at £570 (Yes, nearly £600 for a 50cm HDMI cable.)
Now in the old days, posh cables probably did make some difference to signal quality but HDMI is digital. Ones and noughts. Either the TV picks it up or it doesn’t. The picture and sound will NOT improve however much you shell out (although build quality will get a bit better). But audio buffs have convinced themselves that it does and are willing to pay for this delusion.
The moral: Stop worrying about your prices. there is no such thing as a commodity. Everything can be differentiated. So go and do it.
