It’s not always good to be SMART
You will have heard of SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time limited) although there are other more comprehensive definitions (significant and stretching for the S for instance)
But although setting goals can be very motivational for some it can be a big turn off for others. Perhaps you fall into this group? Big goals are maybe something you don’t have. Or perhaps it’s the magnitude of the task? Perhaps you want to lose weight but the thought of losing so much just discourages you, so you grab a slice of cake or a chocolate biscuit to cheer yourself up. Oops!
Have you thought about setting the process as your goal? Reduce calories and do some appropriate exercise. Do this today. That’s all. Just one day. Easy. Don’t focus on the distant goal but on the here and now.
Then tomorrow you do it again. One day at a time. Eventually you will lose all the weight you want to. It’s like a long walk. Simply putting one foot in front of the other over and over again will get you as far as you want to go: step by step until the journey’s end.
Have a great week
Paul
