Do you sometimes hear this: “Second place was invented to keep losers happy”. Generally from fat Americans who would have a hard time coming first in anything other than a “who ate all the pies” competition.
By that reckoning here are some “losers”.
Goals for England: Bobby Charlton, only 49 (behind Wayne Rooney)
Personal wealth: Warren Buffet $82 billion (behind Bill Gates)
Record Sales by solo artist: Michael Jackson (behind Elvis Presley)
Wouldn’t mind being a loser on that scale. So, who cares if you’re not the best.
In real life success varies. If there is only one seat on the plane left, second place is indeed equal to losing. But if you are being chased by an escaped lion, you don’t need to worry about coming anything but last.
And success is defined by you, no-one else. It’s your life and your call. Don’t hide your light under a bushel and don’t hold yourself back because you’re worried about what everyone else will think. Equally, don’t set goals that are not actually yours. Think about what you want (what you really, really want).
Hey that would make a great song lyric, wonder if anyone’s thought of it?
So be successful but first and foremost; be happy.
Have a great weekend
Paul
